This list is a reference point for the type of technology that is now part of Simul. If something is missing and you have a question, please ask us in the Suggest and Discuss or General Chat!
Fulmen Spheres:
These are what powers a lot of the technology inside of Simul. You can read more about them HERE. They are a 'magical replacement' for things like batteries.
Cell Phones:
📌AKA Telegems:
Cellular devices are not as you would think of them on a modern sense. Though some were dropped during the Timberholde Event, the people of Simul have not been able to recreate them. "Cell Phones" inside of Simul often look like thick pieces of glass that hold a similar shape of modern phones. They are made of a special type of stone mined in the mountains of Simul called Curatrix and powered by Fulmen Spheres. These pieces of "glass" are enchanted with magic that allows people to communicate with others across long distances. They are used like modern day phones, being held to the face in order to hear. Some of the higher profile communication devices can be held in the hand and will project imagery of the caller on the other end, very closely resembling holograms. This is done with some left over components from computers and tablets and cameras. Unless one is proficient and studied how it is done properly, one couldn't tell you off hand how it works. Most people just know 'it does'. Telegems are capable of a few different 'programs' which are Simul Social, Text Messaging, Photo and Video Recording. Most of these Telegems look like the image below, though it is not uncommon for them to be customized by their carriers.
📌Telegem XL:
The Telegem is now even BIGGER than it was before. The camera takes higher resolution pictures and now artificers have added their own “programs” to them. None of it is super fancy; Most just add more storage, better cameras and the ability to write and store messages or notes to it. They include a special “quill” that you can use to hand write everything if you want to.
A select few XL’s are made with the ability to swap out memory crystals that they use for storage just in case the original one becomes full. A couple examples have been seen of these Telegems printing out pictures they have just taken.
Vehicles (Cars, Trucks, Vans, Semis, Motorcycles)
Vehicles that were dropped into Simul during the Timberholde event were heavily damaged. Some of the survivors of the event were able to educate the Citizens of Simul on how they used to work and operate. Since Simul does not have crude oil and gasoline refined enough for these vehicles, most of the surviving vehicles were taken apart and made into something less useful. Expect to see steam and magic powered vehicles throughout the kingdom. These are open for interpretation minus a few things. It is extremely rare to have a vehicle that can travel more than 70 mph. The steam powered vehicles are powered by, you guessed it, steam. With engines made to heat water (Whether magically or mechanically). Magical vehicles tend to have runes or the like that offer power to the wheels. Magical vehicles work like modern day batteries, needing recharging after so long.
Vehicles/Vessels (Flying or Ships)
Boats are really nothing new to Simul, but boat engines are. Much like the vehicles listed above, they will run on steam or magic or a combination of the two. Aircrafts were not salvageable, and were taken apart after the Timberholde incident to use in the building of other types of vehicles. However, some flying ships were produced from these items. Most flying ships are small, able to hold a crew of no more than 30, though there have been rare occasions of larger flying ships. These are not a product of what dropped into the kingdom, but more of something that has evolved over time.
Computers (Laptops and Desktops and Tablets)
Electricity is in abundance in Simul as magical doses. However, it is not refined enough to run computers correctly. Even with the survivors of the Timberholde incident explaining to the best of their knowledge on how these items operated before, many of the computers were fried while Simulians tried to perfect their own output in order to make them work. The salvageable computers were swiftly taken apart and used for advancements in other aspects of Simul life, such as, but not limited to, light bulbs, 'Telegems' (as listed above), mechanical parts of vehicles (as listed above), and cameras. Cameras have become quite common among the people of Simul. With the opportunity to take still images and keep them, Simulians jumped on the bandwagon. Many shops frequently owned by alchemists and tinkerers and mages cropped up offering the sale of these small devices. They are often powered by small stone runes that need recharging by some sort of spell or electrical shock to continue to produce pictures. Some of these cameras can also self print the pictures taken onto paper. Other low end versions would require the device to be taken to one of the shops it was procured at in order for the owners and operators to extract and print the pictures for the customer.
Home Appliances (Refrigerators, Ovens/Stoves, Microwaves, Vacuums, Carpet Cleaners, Small appliances such as coffee makers, toasters, ect)
Most appliances that were left from the fall of Detroit were destroyed and/or rendered useless. With Simul's lack of an electricity system, the items were found to be useless anyway. Most appliances were divided and taken apart in order to use components to power other things such as vehicles, aircrafts and fuel tinkerers' desires. People can easily find small items here and there at various merchants throughout Simul. Most components have no use alone, but could be useful for an inventor type. Some more primitive versions of these types of items have become common.
Industrial Machines (CATs, Tractors, Combines, Lathes, anything you can imagine used for farming, industrial, and etc)
As with most other types of vehicles, these, though very rare to find in a prison city, were swiftly taken apart and used for other vehicles that Simulians could actually put together and use. One would not be able to find one whole. However, as some smaller appliances, more primitive versions of these have been put together and have become commonly bought and sold.
Examples of types of machines allowed:
📌Drill presses
📌Saws
📌Wood lathe
📌Metal lathe
📌Sewing Machines
If it's a machine that can be run on a simple electric motor and worked by hand, it could be allowed. Additions or player creations may be reviewed by staff.
Solar Power
Solar Power did not exist inside of Detroit before it fell. Since the realm it was stolen from had turned the major city into a prison city, it had limited luxuries, such as solar power items.
Medicine
Medicine was also very limited inside of the prison city. Hospital machines were non-existent. No x-rays, MRIs, Cat scans, proper hospital beds...ect. They still had many things that Simul did not have nor think of previously. Below is a list of the types of medicines and items used in medicine that Detroit had that Simul was not privvy to, but are now:
📌Tylenol
📌Advil
📌Motrin
📌Aspirin
📌Ibuprofen
📌Ace Wraps
📌Cotton Balls
📌Cotton swabs
📌Morphine
📌Up to 80% Alcohol
📌Latex and Non-Latex gloves
📌IV Bags
📌Iodine
📌Penicillin
📌Oxygen Tanks
📌Oxygen Masks
📌Ketamine
📌Saline
📌Codeine
📌Syringe
📌Hydrogen Peroxide
(This list may be updated over time)
Music, Music Players (CDs, Records, Tapes)
CDs and records were usually the music players of choice as they were much easier to come by in Detroit. Though some had cell phones and tablets and even computers, CDs and Records were often donated to the prison city. A few of these were found in the rubble of the fallen city. Some remnants of record and CD players made it through the Timberholde Incident and still play some music. MP3s were not a thing, as the prison city did not have access to the internet. Not everyone in Simul has the same tastes as those who lived in a more modern world, but one can often come across one of the musical items if they look hard enough and have enough coin to purchase one.
Televisions, Movies, Movie Players
Despite being a prison, Detroit was often donated various entertainment items, including televisions and movie players. They were never afforded the luxurious kinds, such as flat screens, plasma, or high grade DvDs or Blueray. You could easily locate a tube TV or a Video Tape Player. The items were recovered, and some have found ways to give them the power they need in order to watch these movies and shows through their appropriate devices. Some Simulians have also started to come up with ways to make their own. Especially family videos to keep record or happy times. Over time, actors have become a thing as Simulians gained a love for motion picture entertainment.
Firearms
First things first: When it comes to "How to Roleplay" with firearms inside of Simul, we have a little write-up to help you. Since Simul is T-1, it can be a little confusing on how to do this appropriately. Structure Example Below:
📌Post1- Character fires off all rounds out of their gun. Character cannot use the firearm again in this post.
📌Post 2- Character reloads. This action can be roleplayed out or mentioned. Gun cannot be used in this post either. This also gives players a chance to add more flare to their posts.
📌Post 3- Characters can fire their round(s) again. Once they run out of ammo, repeat the process.
What was once a flintlock only continent, Simul was introduced to more..modern-ish guns. Since Detroit was a prison city, they had limited access to guns, however, some did make it through. Although Simul does not have modern machining techniques, blacksmiths and inventors have succeeded in making their own advancements. The variety and quality of guns varies greatly depending on who made them. Listed below will be a grading scale for firearms as well as examples:
📌Crude - The majority of these firearms are not the greatest. They function but their bad construction impacts accuracy, along with a variety of other things. They will often break after a couple dozen shots or they may consistently jam.
📌Quality - These items are better than most and will get someone out of a tight spot. They still have their issues but by and large, they are reliable.
📌High Quality - Examples of this can be found throughout the kingdom but that high quality comes with a massive price tag.
High quality firearms often have superior accuracy and handling compared to their cheaper counterparts. Firearms of this tier are the closest to modern firearms in quality. Beware, some Simulian gunsmiths boast their guns are better.
📌Custom Firearms - These can vary greatly in build quality due to the nature of these projectile weapons. Tinkerers and inventors of Simul have put their own spin on what the term firearm means. Advancements have been made in this field thanks in part to the new law of the land.
📌Lever action rifles with calibers up to 45-70. These were all single action only. All rifles ammo capacity capped at 15. This is more than normal but, hey, it's a fantasy server. This also includes bolt action rifles and possibly pump action rifles. Bolt action rifles will be capped at ten rounds, pump action rifles would be capped at six rounds.
📌Revolvers with calibers up to 44 magnum. These guns will be capped at 8 rounds for all types of revolvers.
📌All shotguns will be single shot for up to 4 barrels. These were never above 12 gauge. You can have anywhere between 12-20 gauge. Pump action or lever action shotguns capped at 5 rounds, examples of shotguns that are allowed are; The Winchester 1887 lever action shotgun, or the Winchester model 1893. There are more examples of the era but that is the kind of thing allowed.
📌We already allow revolvers and single shot pistols and firearms of that nature but we are expanding it to include lever action pistols like the volcanic repeating pistols. There could be more examples if a player has a good idea. True semi automatic pistols will never be allowed in Simul. The closest anyone will ever get is a gun that looks like a semi automatic. The weapon will be magazine fed and fired in a similar fashion but it will not eject the round. The person firing the weapon will have to unlock the slide and manually operate it back and forth to chamber the next round.
📌Magical firearms, crystal firearms, Fulmen Sphere powered weapons, etc:
It is hard to determine what should and should not be allowed for these types of ranged weapons. They will be reviewed on a case by case basis. A few things to consider when making weapons like this:
📌All weapons like this need some kind of cool down period or have a need to reload.
📌If it shoots a projectile of any kind it will follow the same rules as any other ranged weapon.
📌Pistols capped at eight rounds, rifles at fifteen, shotguns at five.
📌Any changes made to these items may need to be resubmitted for approval
📌Custom ammo -Simul might not be the most technological realm but the people are resourceful. Thanks to a few years of exposure to more modern firearms, they started creating their own custom bullets. A good way to tell who made the gun is the round it fires. (All custom bullets are subject to review)
📌Air Guns - A lesser known piece of technology brought to Simul is the humble airgun. These weapons are slowly becoming popular with farmers as a cheap way to keep the pest population down. Far more industrious artificers have turned these simple items into weapons of war. One example is an airgun that can hit a target a hundred yards away and still kill the target. The shooter will only get a couple shots before reloading. Another example is an air gun that fires arrows at insane speeds. Recharging can be done magically or manually. The majority of users often use the hand pump that is provided by whoever sold it.
📌Most of the guns found and remade are crude with terrible accuracy at long distances. They are still powerful in their own right (I mean...it is a fucking gun).
📌More to come as we adjust to adding guns that fit with the lore.
Unbreakable Items
Nope. Everything has to have a limit. Hard limits are not always necessary, unless staff asks for one. Unbreakable items are going to be a no unless earned through an event.
Generators
Generator technology in Simul is still in its early stages of development and only a select few tinkerers and artificers have figured out how to make it work. These rather expensive pieces of equipment require multiple Fulmen Spheres to run properly. Once installed on a property, generators are powerful enough to run a couple dozen lights and/or small appliances. It can also be used to charge other Fulmen Spheres to run devices.
These generators often come equipped with a way to recharge, negating the need to have someone come out and recharge your generator. The recharger cannot be used on other items, just the generator.
Not all generators are made the same, and depending on who made it it may have things operate a little differently. Remember folks: Electricity will kill you.
Magitech
The field of Magitech is a growing one in Simul. With better and more stable power sources, artificers are hard at work creating the unthinkable. They are slamming together magic and technology in an attempt to make the kinds of things people only dream of. Those that are successful often end up creating one of a kind works of art. Several examples can be found scattered throughout the realm. One such artificer even brought a car from Earth back from the dead. Others have succeeded in making rudimentary limbs for injured soldiers. Magitech might sound awesome and it really is. The only downside to this type of skill set for your character is the requirement that all Magitech creations are to be submitted for approval. We wish it didn't have to be this way, however, with Magitch being such a new creation in the realm, we as staff are also learning what is acceptable and balanced. Only the Magitech itself must be put up for approval, so please highlight what it is we are looking for when submitted.
